The Great LA Air Raid – 2012
As I mentioned in my last post, this weekend we attended the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942 (2012 edition). We had a great time – the weather was beautiful, the band was great, and I had a new outfit! ๐ Other than dyeing my shoes I didn’t have time to make anything new, but I picked up a few new pieces recently that luckily went together nicely.
I’ve never been a hat person in the past because they’re usually awkward on the dance floor, but I’m challenging myself to wear them to more events. This turban hat was great though – it stayed put nicely the whole night!

There were tons of military vehicles and displays. I think it gets bigger every year!
Cait, Lauren and me – offering a little morale boost for the troops!
Heading to watch the Sherman Tank demonstration.
With Rusty Frank, one of our favorite local swing instructors. She taught a free lesson before the band started.
Sirens with the siren. ๐
Climbing up to the top of the Sherman tank was a huge highlight – we felt like conquering heroes. Or at least really tall!
In addition to the military vehicles, there was a vintage car display – Lauren’s husband Matt made the clever display below with vintage tires.
With Joshua Curtis, the author of Sunkissed. Love that book.

Looks awesome event! ๐ And your outfit is pretty!
wow, everyone looks amazing! I'm going to my first ww2 event in April and have no idea what to wear but this post is very inspiring! ๐
Oh! Looks like it was so much fun! Your dress is STUNNING! WOW! I just love it and it goes perfectly with the hat and the newly dyed shoes!!
Oh, you all look amazing! I LOVE that hat on you – I've not seen a turban worn so well! And what a gorgeous dress!
You look stunning! I love both the dress and the hat and they fit together perfectly!
WOW!! You guys looked AMAZING!!!
I love your outfit. It is gorgeous! ๐
Yay!!! Love it! Your pictures came out amazing. I love the last one! HAHAHA!! That just about sums everything up ๐
You look absolutely stunning! The hat is amazing and really suits you. I'm sad that we missed it this year – especially since it looks like you all enjoyed great weather!!!
Oooh, love the dress! You look fantastic, and what a fun event! And lucky you getting to hang out with Lauren ๐
thank you! I appreciate the nice comment!
This event is a little goofier than most WWII events because it's not based on a real battle, but some reenactors at WWII events are real sticklers for being period accurate – a sentiment I agree with when representing our military. That's a big reason I like dressing as a civilian – less pressure! ๐ Can't wait to see your pics!
Thanks Debi! Maybe the next time you head to California you could come down to SoCal for an event!
THANKS! Such a nice compliment! I give the credit to Lauren for the hat – she found it in the antique store and was nice enough to let me buy it. ๐
Thank you Isis! I sure got lucky finding those pieces that match so well!
๐ I hope you're able to come out and enjoy the Air Raid someday!
Thanks! I'm scheming for another event to wear it to. ๐
Right? Hard to know who's goofier!
We missed you guys! yeah, I think we'll probably have rain for the next 3 years since this weekend was so perfect.
Very lucky, don't I know it! ๐ Thanks for the compliment!
Lovely dress! I love the ruching in the bodice.
There are not words to describe how much I want to go to this! Such stunning ladies and handsome men and it looks like one swinging time!
xoxo
